Natural Resources Programs. Our natural resources programs include assistance with developing renewable energy, noxious weed eradication, and hazardous fuels reduction in the wildland/urban interface.  The RC&D partners with a variety of organizations and people to ensure the wise use of our natural resources.

Current Natural Resources Programs/Projects

Hazardous Fuels Reduction - The RC&D and Gallatin County Extension have joined forces to  implement a three-county Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program. This program provides landowners with technical and financial assistance with reducing their risk of loss from wildfire. For more information contact the Gallatin County Extension office at 406-388-3213 or email gallatin3@montana.edu.

Noxious Weed Eradication - The RC&D partners with Gallatin County Extension to provide landowners with technical assistance and cost share for controlling noxious weeds.  Visit our noxious weed page for more information on the areas we are working in this year.

Gallatin/Big Sky Noxious Weed Committee - The RC&D sponsors a citizen-led effort to combat noxious weeds from Yellowstone National Park to Four Corners along the Gallatin River.  The Gallatin/Big Sky Noxious Weed Committee hires professionals to provide technical assistance and limited cost share for landowners with noxious weeds. Contact the G/BS Weed Committee for more information on this assistance.

Energy Development from Animal Waste - The Northern Rocky Mountain RC&D assists dairies with determining the feasibility of and obtaining financing for anaerobic digester projects.  To learn more about our energy programs visit our energy page.

Wind Energy Assistance - We provide wind energy assistance for landowners and communities in Meagher, Park and Gallatin counties.  The RC&D is currently working on an irrigation energy tool for farmers to use in determining if wind is a good fit for them.  We also provide landowners with information to assist them in evaluating wind lease options.  For more information on our wind energy programs, visit our energy page or the MSU Extension website.
